Setting up VPN on Windows 2000 & XP

 

Here you will find the instruction for setting up the VPN connection on your Windows 2000 or XP machine. We start with the windows 2000 PPTP VPN setup guide. Furhter down you will find the Windows XP guide followed by the L2TP IPsec VPN guide. Once the PPTP VPN connection is configured, you can return to it and do some changes in order to switch to L2TP IPSEC VPN. This may be required if you have issues connecting to our service.

Windows 2000 PPTP VPN

1. Double-click on "My Computer" icon on your desktop. Then click on "Control Panel" See screenshot

2. Once your control panel is open, double click on Network and Dial Up Connections. See screenshot

3. Double–click on ‘Make New Connection’. The “Network Connection Wizard” screen will appear. Click the "Next See screenshot

4. From the options presenter, select "Connect to a private network through the Internet" and click "Next"See screenshot

5. You will be asked for a server IP Address. Refer to the Welcome email. Enter the IP and press "Next" See screenshot

6. You are asked to set user access. Select "for all users" and click next to continue See screenshot

7. You will be asked to "Name the Connection" Name it anything you want and press on "Finish" See screenshot

8. Connecting to the VPN: Double click on the connection you created, found in "Network and Dial-Up Connections folder See screenshot

Windows XP PPTP VPN --- > L2TP guide further down

1. Open "Networks connection folder" Located in Start -> Control Panel . See screenshot

2. Click on the 'Create a new connection' in the Network Tasks task (top left corner) See screenshot

3. The Connection wizard will load. Click next and then "Connect to the network at my workplace" as shown in images See screenshot & Here

4. Now select "Virtual Private Network" connection, and click 'Next' See screenshot

5. When asked for "company name" type "VpnAccounts.com" or anything you like and click the 'Next' button. See screenshot

6. On the following stage select the option to 'Do not dial the initial connection' and click the 'Next' button See screenshot

7. Enter the Server IP Address provided to you in the welcome email. See screenshot

8. Select the 'Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop' check box and click 'Finish'. See screenshot

9. On your desktop 'double click' on the connection shortcut you created in step 8. Refer to the welcome email we sent you and in the 'User Name' box, enter your username. In the 'Password' box, enter the password. Optionally, click 'Save Password' to save your password as part of the connection. Click connect and you will be connecting using PPTP VPN. 10. In the VPN properties, click on Options. Uncheck the 'Include Windows logon domain' and click the 'Networking' tab. See screenshot

11. Under the "Networking" tab, change the 'Type of VPN' from 'Automatic' to 'L2TP IPsec VPN'. See screenshot

12. Now click "Security" tab, It should look the same as the image. See screenshot Now click the 'IPsec Setttings...' button. In the image you will enter a pre-shared key. It is found in the welcome email. Enter it and press ok . See screeshot

13. Everything is ready. Double click on the connection on your desktop and enter user data. Refer to the welcome email. Enter username, password and click connect. See screenshot
