Setting Up PPTP & L2TP VPN on MAC OS X 10.5 Leopard

 

Here you will find the setup guide for your Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. We will begin with PPTP VPN and proceed with L2TP IPsec VPN. Two different types of VPN protocols and it may be a good idea to create one of each. If one fails to connect depending on how restrtictive your network, you try the second connection.

1. Click on System Preferences in the apple menu and then click on "Network" that is located under "Internet & Network" . See screenshot

2. On the bottom left, if the lock icon looks “locked”, click on it and type in your Administrator Name and password.

3. Click the '+' icon (hilighted in red) to make a new VPN connection See screenshot

4. A new window appears. Click on the 'Interface' menu to see the list of choices. Select VPN. See screenshot

5. Now change the "VPN type" and select "PPTP VPN" and for "service name" name it something like VpnAccounts.com PPTP. Click "Create" See screenshot

6. Now you can start entering your VPN account information and when done you click on "Authentication settings". See screenshot

-- Server address: In the welcome email
-- Account name: Username found in welcome email.
-- Encryption: Automatic

7. In the "Authentication Settings" dialog, enter you password found in the Welcome email and click "OK See screenshot

8. Click Advanced and make sure "Send all traffic over VPN connection" is checked and now click OK. See screenshot

9. Check the box to "Show VPN status in menu bar" for easy access later and now Click Apply to save the settings.

10. Connect by selecting your VPN connection in the connection list and click the "Connect" button

 

MAX OS X 10.5 L2TP IPSec VPN Setup Guide

1. Click on System Preferences in the apple menu and then click on "Network" that is located under "Internet & Network" . See screenshot

7. In the "Authentication Settings" window fill in the settings and press OK. See screenshot

- User Authentication: Enter you password found in the Welcome email
- Machine Authentication: enter the shared secret found in email

9. Click Advanced and make sure "Send all traffic over VPN connection" is checked and now click OK. See screenshot

10. Check the box to "Show VPN status in menu bar" for easy access later and now Click Apply to save the settings.

11. Connect by selecting your VPN connection in the connection list and click the "Connect" button
