Setting Up PPTP & L2TP VPN on MAC OS X 10.4 Tiger

 

Here you will find the setup guide for your Mac 10.4 Tiger. We will begin with PPTP VPN and proceed with L2TP IPsec VPN. Two different types of VPN protocols and it may be a good idea to create one of each. If one fails to connect depending on how restrtictive your network, you try the second connection.

 

MAX OS X 10.4 PPTP VPN Setup Guide ----> L2TP guide further down

1. Open the "Applications" folder by going to the Finder and choosing"New Finder Window" from the"File" menu and Click on the "Applications" icon on the left as shown in the image, then scroll down to "Internet Connect" icon. See screenshot

2. Double–click on the “Internet Connect” icon. You will see something simillar to this image. See screenshot

3. Go to the ‘File’ menu and select “New VPN Connection Window.” See screenshot

4. Click on ‘PPTP,’ then click ‘Continue.’ See screenshot

5. Click "edit configuration" in order to enter the Connection Information See screenshot

6. You wil be asked for information regarding the connection See screenshot

-- Type 'VpnAccounts.com' "PPTP VPN" or anything you like as the Description. 
-- The "server Address" is provided in the welcome email.
-- For Account name, enter the username provided in the welcome email.
-- For "user authentication, select "password" and it is found in the welcome email.
-- "Enable VPN on demand" should be unchecked, and "Encryption" should be set to "Automatic". 
-- Click "OK". Your configuration is saved, and you're ready to connect!

7. Please do one more thing before connecting:

-- Go to network preferences > VPN(PPTP) > Advanced > Session Options.
-- Put a check next to "Send all traffic over VPN connection"

7. To connect, double click on “Internet Connect,” click on “VPN (PPTP)”. Put a check mark on "show vpn status in menu bar" then click the ‘Connect’ button..

 

MAX OS X 10.4 L2TP IPSEC VPN Setup Guide

1. Open the "Applications" folder by going to the Finder and choosing"New Finder Window" from the"File" menu and Click on the "Applications" icon on the left as shown in the image, then scroll down to "Internet Connect" icon. See screenshot

2. Double–click on the “Internet Connect” icon. You will see something simillar to this image. See screenshot

3. Go to the ‘File’ menu and select “New VPN Connection Window.” See screenshot

4. Click on ‘L2TP over IPSec,’ then click ‘Continue.’ See screenshot

5. The next screen click "edit configuration" to enter the Connection Information See screenshot

6. Fill in the fields as shown in the image, so that the VPN Configuration screen looks like this. Press OK when done See screenshot

-- For "Machine authentication" select shared secret and enter the sharedsecret found in the welcome email.
-- "Enable VPN on demand" should be unchecked
-- Click "OK". Your configuration is saved, and you're ready to connect!
